Oh look, a Potterhead making a smartass comment against Twilight. I hadn’t seen that on Tumblr before. Ooh what’s next? A flashy gif showing how much the cast of Harry Potter have grown through the years next to a flashy gif consisting of Kristen Stewart having the same expression with a caption that says, “zomg she never smiles!!1!!1”

It’s always the same jokes. Over and over again. “Omg Twilight’s about choosing necrophilia and beasitality lololol how unrealistic” Oh, yes. And a bunch of british wizards is much more plausible. An evil wizard with a wall socket for a nose is way more realistic. Of course.

“When the love of Hermione’s life left her, she went on and fought in the war. When the love of Bella’s life left her, she cried for days and was depressed.” How DARE she? A teenage girl crying over a break up? PREPOSTEROUS!

News flash everyone, Bella Swan and Hermione Granger are two completely different female characters in two completely different series of movies and books. You’re mad that Bella Swan didn’t pick up a wand and battle the big bad Volturi? Guess what? She’s not a wizard. She’s not a combat fighter. She’s not a knight. She’s a normal teenage girl who lives in Washington. Hermione’s a wizard (or witch) who has been training and exercising her craft for years. When Voldemort returned, she stood by Harry’s side and fought because she had been practicing for years and she did what she had to do. She was and is brave.

But so was Bella Swan, in her own way. Bella did not pull out a gun and start shooting the evil vampires. She didn’t start kickboxing like she had been training for it all her life. She’s a normal, awkward, clumsy teenage girl who didn’t have any prior fight training or training in anything, really. She fell in love with a vampire and when his life or her life was in danger, she tried to help in whatever way she could. She rushed to Italy because she heard Edward was in danger of revealing himself and saved him. She voluntarily drew her own blood to lure Victoria away from killing Edward.

So, yes, Bella was brave in her own way. Face it. You girls on Tumblr are more like Bella then Hermione. Hermione was an intelligent and brave witch with a big burden on her shoulders and a big war to fight. Bella is a teenage girl whose biggest problem, up until she met Edward, was getting asked to Prom. There’s no way you can even compare these two characters. I don’t see why people insist on doing so.

I see that making fun of Twilight and everything associated with it is commonly accepted on Tumblr and is even egged on. 90% of Tumblr recently started liking Robert Pattinson because throughout the promotion of Breaking Dawn, he was making cracks at it and “trolling.” But before that, he was the sparkly, fairy vampire. He always looked “constipated” or “in pain.” But the minute he made a couple of jokes against The Twilight Saga, he was a god amongst men.

I’m not even going to get into the hate against Kristen Stewart. Or the completely unnecessary comparison between Emma Watson and Kristen Stewart. That, alone, deserves a completely different post of its own.

Surprisingly enough, I’m more a fan of Harry Potter than I am of Twilight. But, I’m not a “potterhead.” I do not even want to be associated with that name. Because there’s a difference between a Harry Potter fan and a potterhead. A Harry Potter fan enjoyed the movies and the books and are able to accept that it, and its actors, has a few flaws. They are able to respect other franchises and its fans. A potterhead finds absolutely nothing wrong with the film and thinks the sun shines out of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson’s asses. They also think that other movie franchises pale in comparison and should disappear from the face of the earth and take it’s actors with it. Most Harry Potter fans don’t like potterheads and feel that they are embarrassing to the fandom. That’s how I feel. This can also apply to “twihards” and Twilight fans.

I read all the books in the Twilight Saga and saw all the movies and while I think that Harry Potter is better, I did enjoy them to an extent. I also accept that there are people out there who enjoy it, not because it’s a fine piece of literature but because it’s just what they enjoy. People don’t like Twilight and they have legit reasons like, “I didn’t think it was well written” or “I didn’t understand the plot of the books.” But when your reason for not liking a series of books or movies is because, “lolol bella’s so emotionless and she sucks!11!1 wow a sparkly vampire and a wolf. Wow how unrealistic and stupid!! Harry Potter is the best evurr!”I just cannot take you seriously.
